Students Impressed with Deloitte Tour
Twenty Grade 10 accounting students had the opportunity to hear presentations from a forensic accountant and experts in cyber risk services at the newly opened Deloitte offices in downtown Toronto.

“Students were really looking forward to the presentations,” said Business, Accounting and Math Teacher Colleen Ketchum, “As well as being excited to tour the impressive new offices.”

Roddy Allan, one of Deloitte’s most experienced forensic accountants, told the class about his career, also sharing information about some of his past investigations.

"For the last few weeks, we’ve been studying ethics in accounting and presenting on famous accounting fraud cases such as Enron, Livent, Hollinger and Bre-X," said Ms Ketchum. "All the presentations we heard at Deloitte were informative and relevant to our own course work."

Mr. Allan has spent more than 20 years investigating large-scale fraud, corruption and regulatory issues. He is an advisor and investigator for financial institutions, public companies and counsel seeking advice on asset recovery.

The class also heard from three women in the Cyber Risk Services Group including Beth Dewitt, Senior Manager of Cyber Risk Services. Ms Dewitt is the Data Protection and Privacy Leader for Canada and a member of the Global Risk Advisory team. She has more than 10 years’ experience helping organizations strengthen their data protection and privacy practices. She leads market activities in privacy risk management, data mapping and data protection strategies.

"It was certainly an eye-opening field trip!" added Ms Ketchum.
